The Viking Ship Museum is now closed for rebuilding. We will reopen as the Museum of the Viking Age in 2025/2026.
In the Viking Ship Museum there are three ships that are each more than 1,000 years old.
The ships Gokstad, Oseberg and a Viking longboat are all displayed inside the museum together with other Viking artefacts. The Viking longboat was the first to be found of these three and is one of the most characteristically shaped Viking longboats in the world. It was clearly a very fast ship, making it suitable for transporting valuable goods and sometimes even slaves, as well as a fearsome weapon in naval battles.
