The city of Ålesund has 45.000 inhabitants and is one of the most important fishing harbours in Norway. After a devastating fire in 1904 which destroyed most of the old wooden buildings, the town was completely rebuilt on the initiative of Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany. As a result, Ålesunds architecture is unusually consistent and has a unique concentration of Art Nouveau – Jugendstyle. A pretty new city with an old touch!

Después de un incendio que destruyó la mayoría de los edificios de madera en 1904, la ciudad fue completamente reconstruida por iniciativa del emperador Wilhelm de Alemania. Como resultado de ello, la arquitectura de Ålesund tiene una estructura inusualmente consistente y cuenta con una singular concentración de Art Nouveau – Modernismo.

Die kleine Stadt Ålesund ist einer der wichtigsten Fischerhäfen Norwegens. Nach einem Feuer im Jahr 1904, das die meisten der alten Holzhäuser zerstörte, wurde die Stadt auf Initiative von Kaiser Wilhelm II vollständig rekonstruiert. Aus diesem Grund ist die Architektur von Ålesund ungewöhnlich einheitlich und bietet eine einzigartige Konzentration an Art Nouveau Jugendstil.

Ålesund sightseeing – Hop On Hop Off

Hop On i Ålesund operates when cruise ships are in port during the summer between May and the end of August. Departures occur every 45 minutes between 09:00 in the morning and 16:55 in the afternoon.  Earlier departures when cruise ships are in port.

We also provide a guided city tour in your preferred language. The Hop On-buses have pre-recorded audio guiding in 7 languages: English, German, Dutch, French, Spanish, Italian, and Norwegian.

One (1) pair of earphones per ticket is included in the price. Use them on board the bus to listen to fun and informative commentaries in any of the languages offered.

Cruise ship arrival Ålesund

Hop On tour busses is operating in wonderful Ålesund when cruise ships are docked in the port during the summer season, from early May until late September. Our red sightseeing buses are easy to recognize and will be present by the cruise ship terminal when your ship arrives in Ålesund. The last tour of the day will arrive back at the cruise ship terminal approximately 1 hour before ship departure. Be prepared for a special tour!
